Preparing Your Property for Wet Season
SeasonalBy Mike Davis

Darwin's wet season typically runs from November to April, bringing heavy rainfall, storms, and high humidity. Preparing your property in advance can save you significant money and stress.

Start with your roof and gutters. Clear all debris from gutters and downpipes to ensure water can flow freely. Check for any damaged or missing roof tiles or sheeting that could let water in.

Inspect your property's drainage. Water should flow away from buildings, not towards them. If you notice pooling water near foundations after rain, it's time to address your drainage.

Trim any overhanging branches or trees that could pose a risk in high winds. This is especially important for large trees near power lines or structures.

Finally, check all seals around windows and doors. The combination of driving rain and wind can force water into even small gaps. Resealing is quick, inexpensive, and well worth the effort.
